These books provide help for teachers to plan and teach mathematics in ways that engage students, stimulate their thinking, and make math interesting. Designed as an alternative to textbook instruction, each Math by all Means unit presents a cohesive, classroom-tested plan for five or six weeks of classroom instruction.
Problem-solving activities focus on thinking and reasoning, incorporate the use of concrete materials, and provide opportunities for students to communicate orally and in writing about their mathematics learning. Each unit offers the following:
- Whole Class Lessons that introduce concepts
- Menu Activities that provide individuals and small- group learning experiences
- "From the classroom" vignettes that describe actual classroom experiences
- Assessments that help teachers evaluate student progress
- Blackline Masters that give directions for activities
Each unit provides teachers with innovative, classroom-tested teaching units to implement the NCTM Standards. Each unit presents a completely developed plan for teaching children to think mathematically and learn to apply math concepts in everyday situations. Each of these resources is intended to serve as a complete course of instruction for its subject. This unit provides experience with number, measurement, geometry, logical reasoning, and collecting, graphing, and interpreting data. The three titles remaining are Place Value Grades 1-2, Geometry Grade 2, Geometry Grade 3 |
